Week 0 – Trying out C25k program

I’m testing out Robert Ullrey’s C25k Podcast while running. I took a couple minutes to listen to it before running. I’m not a “techno” music type of person and this seems to have lots of techno, we’ll see how the 1st time goes…

Dec 30th – Got through the first day and it went well! I felt that I had been challenged after completing day one, and actually excited about my next walk/run. The music improved as the podcast went along and I think it actually helped me to get a good pace/rhythm.

Jan 2nd – Day 2 – Last time I ran on an indoor track. Today, I feel a cold coming on, so did the routine on my elliptical at home. (I use the term “elliptical” loosely!) I definitely prefer the track! I found myself counting the seconds for each walk/run. Looking forward to another run on the track.

Jan 5th – Day 3 – Back at the track. The pesky cold is still with me, so taking it easy. I was still able to complete the week 1 walk/run and even felt a little better afterwards.

Jan 6th – Still feeling yucky, but wanted to stick to the plan. Was able to get through the entire session again.

I am planning to repeat the week one exercise schedule again (5 minute warm up. 60 second run, 90 second walk – 8x). That way others can join in and I can still run while trying to get rid of this nasty virus!

Couch to 5K running program

I am using the “Couuch to 5K” (or C25k) running program to help prepare for the ICHS 5K in April. It is a 9 week program that takes you from walking to running a 5k.
Here is more information: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

I have found it helpful to download download Robert Ullrey’s C25k podcast. You will find it available to download for free on iTunes, or you can also find it here: http://www.ullreys.com/robert/Podcasts/page4/files/category-7.html

I will blog my progress to preparing for a 5k based on using this program.
Here is a link to the program:

Welcome to the ICHS Paws Fur a Cause blog!

Thanks for joining us on our trek to prepare for the ICHS Paws Fur a Cause fundraiser.
The fundraiser will take place on Saturday, April 10, 2010.

We will use this blog to help you train for the 5K portion.

I want to complete my first 5K run and am using the ICHS Paws Fur a Cause as my goal.

Let’s help each other reach a goal that will help the animals and help ourselves!

-Jennifer
